AURA 2016 – First Australian Report on Antimicrobial use and resistance in human health 

“AURA 2016: first Australian report on antimicrobial use and resistance in human health provides the most comprehensive picture of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), antimicrobial use (AU) and appropriateness of prescribing in Australia to date. It sets a baseline that will allow trends to be monitored over time. AURA 2016 also highlights areas where future work will inform action to prevent the spread of AMR.”

Frequent, inappropriate use of antibiotics major concern in aged-care facilities

New research has found one in three prescriptions given in Australian residential aged- care facilities were prescribed for six months or more, putting residents at a high risk of antimicrobial resistance.

The 2015 Aged Care National Antimicrobial Prescribing Survey (acNAPS) pilot study investigated the prescribing behaviours and frequency of infections in 186 aged-care facilities around Australia.

NCAS Annual Forum

Wednesday 9th November 2016 

NCAS are excited to announce the NCAS Annual Forum will be held on Wednesday 9th November 2016, at the Doherty Institute, 792 Elizabeth Street, Melbourne.

The aim of the day is to bring all AMS stakeholders together to network, discuss and hear about the latest developments in AMS. The day will commence with presentations from the Director of NCAS , Professor Karin Thursky, and invited expert speakers. Following a light lunch, a series of presentations from NCAS PhD students and post docs will provide you with the opportunity to discuss new research initiatives in AMS with your peers.

The Annual Forum program is currently being finalised and will be available soon.

Attendance at the Annual Forum is free to all delegates.
